Design, large-scale usage testing, and important metrics for augmented reality gaming applications
ACM TRANSACTIONS ON MULTIMEDIA COMPUTING, COMMUNICATIONS AND APPLICATIONS Autore/i: Pierdicca, R.; Emanuele, E.; ZINGARETTI, Primo; Mancini, A.; Loncarski, J.; Paolanti, M. Classificazione: 1 Contributo su Rivista Abstract: Augmented Reality (AR) offers the possibility to enrich the real world with digital mediated content, increasing in this way the quality of many everyday experiences. While in some research areas such as cultural heritage, tourism, or medicine there is a strong technological investment, AR for game purposes struggles to become awidespread commercial application. In this article, a novel framework for AR kid games is proposed, already developed by the authors for other AR applications such as Cultural Heritage and Arts. In particular, the framework includes different layers such as the development of a series of AR kid puzzle games in an intermediate structure which can be used as a standard for different applications development, the development of a smart configuration tool, together with general guidelines and long-life usage tests and metrics. The proposed application is designed for augmenting the puzzle experience, but can be easily extended to other AR gaming applications. Once the user has assembled the real puzzle, AR functionality within the mobile application can be unlocked, bringing to life puzzle characters, creating a seamless game that merges AR interactions with the puzzle reality. The main goals and benefits of this framework can be seen in the development of a novel set of AR tests and metrics in the pre-release phase (in order to help the commercial launch and developers), and in the release phase by introducing the measures for long-life app optimization, usage tests and hint on final users together with a measure to design policy, providing a method for automatic testing of quality and popularity improvements. Moreover, smart configuration tools, as part of the general framework, enabling multi-app and eventually also multi-user development, have been proposed, facilitating the serialization of the applications. Results were obtained from a large-scale user test with about 4 million users on a set of eight gaming applications, providing the scientific community a workflow for implicit quantitative analysis in AR gaming. Different data analytics developed on the data collected by the framework prove that the proposed approach is affordable and reliable for long-life testing and optimization. PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF NO-TILLAGE EFFECT AGAINST CONVENTIONAL TILLAGE AND FERTILIZATION ON DURUM WHEAT QUALITY
BOOK OF ABSTRACT of SIB 2019 60th CONGRESS Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Lecce,, September 18 – 20, 2019 Autore/i: Alia, Sonila; Pugnaloni, Sofia; Mazzanti, Laura; Magagnini, Mattia; Cecati, Monia; Orsini, Roberto; Basili, Danilo; Belletti, Matteo; Bentivoglio, Deborah; ALBERTO BOZZI, Carlo; Chiappini, Stefano; Conti, Carla; Galli, Andrea; Giorgini, Elisabetta; Fiorentini, Marco; Malinverni, Eva Savina; Mancini, Adriano; Monaci, Elga; Passerini, Giorgio; Pro, Chiara; Santilocchi, Rodolfo; Zenobi, Stefano; Zingaretti, Primo; Vignini, Arianna Classificazione: 2 Contributo in Volume Abstract: With increasing world population, agriculture must face the challenge of ensuring the growing demand for food. Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. subsp. Durum) is a staple food that provides calories and nutrients in many parts of the world. It is the main cereal crop in Italy and in the Marche region is the most representative crop. The Interdepartmental Research founded by Università Politecnica delle Marche called “PFRLab: Setting of a Precision Farming Robotic Laboratory for cropping system sustainability and food safety and security”, is examining the effect of different nitrogen (N) fertilization sources, soil tillage depths and crop rotations on durum wheat quality, which is still underway. This project also aims at evaluating specific criteria for food safety, studying the effects of pollutants together with the bioavailability of nutrients. The durum wheat samples were cultivated and subsequently collected at “Pasquale Rosati” experimental farm of the Università Politecnica delle Marche on a ground divided into conventional tillage (CT) and no-tillage (NT). As regards the biochemical characterization of durum wheat, the percentage of proteins via the Kjeldahl method, lutein, and the mineral composition (Mn, Cu, Se), present in wheat grains, were evaluated. The preliminary results suggest a higher percentage of protein in the product on NT soil compared to CT; in relation to the quantity of fertilizer used N 0 Kg ha-1 and N 180 Kg ha-1 a higher protein percentage following N 180 Kg ha-1 fertilization was noted. Durum wheat is a significant source of manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), and selenium (Se) and between the two types of soil and fertilizer no significant differences were found. The same also for lutein. The NT treatment expressed its superior nature for a good level of grain quality. Further and extensive studies are planned to combine the effects of nitrogen fertilization and soil management on the main durum wheat production variables. From Artificial Intelligence and Databases to Cognitive Computing: Past and Future Computer Engineering Research at UNIVPM
The First Outstanding 50 Years of “Università Politecnica delle Marche” Autore/i: Cucchiarelli, Alessandro; Diamantini, Claudia; Dragoni, Aldo Franco; Francescangeli, Fabrizio; Frontoni, Emanuele; Mancini, Adriano; Marinelli, Fabrizio; Morbidoni, Christian; Pezzella, Ferdinando; Pisacane, Ornella; Potena, Domenico; Ribighini, Giuseppa; Spalazzi, Luca; Storti, Emanuele; Ursino, Domenico; Vici, Francesco; Zingaretti, Primo Editore: Springer, Cham Classificazione: 2 Contributo in Volume Abstract: In the last decades, Computer Engineering has shown an impressive development and has become a pervasive protagonist in daily life and scientific research. Databases and Artificial Intelligence represent two of the major players in this development. Today, they are quickly converging towards a new, much more sophisticated and inclusive, paradigm, namely Cognitive Computing. This paradigm leverages Big Data and Artificial Intelligence to design approaches and build systems capable of (at least partially) reproducing human brain behavior. In this paradigm, an important role can be also played by Mathematical Programming. Cognitive systems are able to autonomously learn, reason, understand and process a huge amount of extremely varied data. Their ultimate goal is the capability of interacting naturally with their users. In the last 50 years, UNIVPM has played a leading role in scientific research in Databases and Artificial Intelligence, and, thanks to the acquired expertise, is going to play a key role in Cognitive Computing research in the future. Empowered Optical Inspection by Using Robotic Manipulator in Industrial Applications
IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems Autore/i: Galdelli, A.; Pagnotta, D. P.; Mancini, A.; Freddi, A.; Monteriu, A.; Frontoni, E. Editore: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc. Classificazione: 4 Contributo in Atti di Convegno (Proceeding) Abstract: Nowadays the inspection of products at the end of line represents a critical phase. At this stage, it is necessary to look for defects in order to prevent the quality check to fail, and to provide information for improving the production as well. This task can be performed by using several sensing technologies, and the contactless optical inspection plays a key role. In this regard, the use of advanced robotic manipulators offers the capability to change the viewpoint of a given object and to inspect its multiple faces. We propose an approach that combines the use of photometric stereo to derive a 3D model of objects, empowered by the super-resolution that is applied on the original dataset (upstream) or on the normal images (downstream) in order to increase the quality of the final 3D model. The vision system is mounted on a robotic manipulator, able to grasp and change the viewpoint, thus offering a more complete view of the object to be inspected. The obtained results show that the developed solution increases the quality of the derived 3D models used for inspection tasks on different faces of the objects; this is achieved by using the manipulation ability offered by the adopted robotic platform. Classificazione: 1 Contributo su Rivista Abstract: The acceleration of Digital Agriculture is evident through the increased adoption of digital technologies on farms including smart machines, sensors and cloud computing. In this paper we present the preliminary results of the research project funded by Università Politecnica delle Marche in 2018 "PFRLab: Setting of a precision farming robotic laboratory for cropping system sustainability and food safety and security", which is still underway. In this context, as first result, an interdepartmental Research and Services Center called "Smart Farming" has been set up with the aim to strengthen multidisciplinary collaborations in the fields of Agriculture and Forestry, Geomatics, ICT and Robotics. Regarding field activities the SPAD 502 as well as Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) provide a good estimate of the Chlorophylla+b content in durum wheat leaves so can be used to predict in a quickly and non-destructively way, the crop greenness status and to identify any nutritional deficiencies in real time. Future research activities are certainly needed to fully explore the potentialities of conservation agriculture and precision farming, and to drive the transition process from conventional agriculture to modern conservation agriculture and precision farming techniques. In-depth studies are planned on the combined effect of nitrogen fertilization and soil management on the main production variables of durum wheat in order to evaluate whether specific tools for precision agriculture applications can find significant diffusion even in Mediterranean cereal based cropping systems. An IoT Solution for Energy Management at Building and District Level
2018 14th IEEE/ASME International Conference on Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications (MESA) Autore/i: Arnesano, Marco; Dyson, Jack; Fagiani, Marco; Mancini, Adriano; Revel, Gian Marco; Severini, Marco; Squartini, Stefano; Zampetti, Lorenzo; Zingaretti, Primo Classificazione: 4 Contributo in Atti di Convegno (Proceeding) Abstract: Today the monitoring of energy variables plays a key-role in the proper management of buildings to optimize costs along with the low emission profile and comfortable environments. The monitoring could be augmented by adding also optimization aspects that could decrease the energy/costs. Up to now the optimization is performed by using building and context (district) data, but with no or rough evaluation of comfort conditions delivered to the occupants. The work presented in this paper is derived from the ENERGIS project that takes into account individual buildings and districts including detailed comfort conditions representing a novelty in the Energy Management System. The monitoring is used to locally sense the energy demand while the optimization is performed at two different scales. The first optimization tries to consider different aspects related to the thermal management of rooms, supported by a novel sensor that is able to evaluate the comfort taking into account the room model and to control the thermal actuators to track a comfort set-point. The second level of optimization starts from the collected data from each building to set-up a district model that is able to map and then predict the energy demand enabling an energy management that is built on the concept of “sharing”. This paper outlines the overall system architecture that exploits the benefit of IoT also showing the first optimization level performed on a business office showing the overall pipeline that starts from the sensing of environment and ends with the control of actuators to track an optimized set-point. Building detection in multi-source aerial data with imbalanced training samples: an approach based on the Bayesian Vector Quantizer
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF IMAGE AND DATA FUSION Autore/i: BENVENUTI, FILIPPO; MANCINI, ADRIANO; POTENA, Domenico; DIAMANTINI, Claudia; FRONTONI, EMANUELE; ZINGARETTI, PRIMO Classificazione: 1 Contributo su Rivista Abstract: The problem of building detection in multi-source aerial data has a large variety of applications from map updating to the detection of illegal construction. The development of a capability to integrate multispectral and LiDAR technologies has been proved to be the most effective strategy in dealing with the problem. An automated and combined approach enables such joint capabilities to process data, reducing human effort that is usually limited to the creation of training sets. This aspect plays a key role in getting accurate results and it is central to dealing with the problem of an imbalanced data set. We tailor the Bayesian Vector Quantizer algorithm (BVQ) to the problem of building detection from multi-source high-resolution aerial data like LiDAR with a focus on the imbalanced data set problem. The result is a methodology that is optimised towards the solution of strongly imbalanced problems where noise is present and where the number of training samples for buildings over classes like trees, land and grass is one order of magnitude lower. The formulation is compared with other well-adopted approaches which highlight the relative strengths of the BVQ approach. Remote touch interaction with high quality models using an autostereoscopic 3D Display
Augmented reality, Virtual reality and Computer graphics Autore/i: Mancini, Adriano; Clini, Paolo; Bozzi, Carlo Alberto; Malinverni, Eva Savina; Pierdicca, Roberto; Nespeca, Romina Editore: Springer International publishing Classificazione: 2 Contributo in Volume Abstract: The use of 3D models to document archaeological ndings witnessed to boost in the latest years, mainly thanks to the large adop- tion of digital photogrammetry for the virtual reconstruction of ancient artifatcs. For this reason, the widespread availability of digital 3D objects obliges the research community to face with a hard challenge: which is the best way for allowing visitors being in contact with the real estate of cultural goods? The work described in these pages answers to these questions by describing a novel solution for the enhanced interaction and visualization of a complex 3D model . The installation consists in an autostereoscopic display paired with a remotely connected (with a wired connection) touch-pad for the interaction with the contents displayed in it. The main advantage of using such technology is represented by the fact that one is not obliged to wear cumbersome devices but at the same time one can have a 3D view of the object without any additional aid. The system allows, through a touch-pad, to manage the 3D views and interact with with a very small object that in its virtual dimension is magnied with respect to a classical museum arrangement. The research results, applied to the real case exhibition presented, have proved the innovation and usability of the multimedia solutions, which required the use of complex hardware components and a tricky implementation of the whole software architecture. The digital disruption in the CH domain should be also entrusted in the use of advanced interfaces that at the same time are intuitive and usable interaction methods Scheda della pubblicazione: https://iris.univpm.it/handle/11566/248778 ![]() |

Smart maintenance of riverbanks using a standard data layer and augmented reality
COMPUTERS & GEOSCIENCES Autore/i: Pierdicca, Roberto; Frontoni, Emanuele; Zingaretti, Primo; Mancini, Adriano; Malinverni, Eva Savina; Tassetti, Annanora; Marcheggiani, Ernesto; Galli, Andrea Classificazione: 1 Contributo su Rivista Abstract: Linear buffer strips (BS) along watercourses are commonly adopted to reduce run-off, accumulation of bank-top sediments and the leaking of pesticides into fresh-waters, which strongly increase water pollution. However, the monitoring of their conditions is a difficult task because they are scattered over wide rural areas. This work demonstrates the benefits of using a standard data layer and Augmented Reality (AR) in watershed control and outlines the guideline of a novel approach for the health-check of linear BS. We designed a mobile environmental monitoring system for smart maintenance of riverbanks by embedding the AR technology within a Geographical Information System (GIS). From the technological point of view, the system's architecture consists of a cloud-based service for data sharing, using a standard data layer, and of a mobile device provided with a GPS based AR engine for augmented data visualization. The proposed solution aims to ease the overall inspection process by reducing the time required to run a survey. Indeed, ordinary operational survey conditions are usually performed basing the fieldwork on just classical digitized maps. Our application proposes to enrich inspections by superimposing information on the device screen with the same point of view of the camera, providing an intuitive visualization of buffer strip location. This way, the inspection officer can quickly and dynamically access relevant information overlaying geographic features, comments and other contents in real time. The solution has been tested in fieldwork to prove at what extent this cutting-edge technology contributes to an effective monitoring over large territorial settings. The aim is to encourage officers, land managers and practitioners toward more effective monitoring and management practices Scheda della pubblicazione: https://iris.univpm.it/handle/11566/236195 ![]() |

Electromagnetic Technology for a New Class of Electronic Travel Aids Supporting the Autonomous Mobility of Visually Impaired People
Visually Impaired: Assistive Technologies, Challenges and Coping Strategies Autore/i: DI MATTIA, Valentina; Scalise, Lorenzo; Petrini, Valerio; Russo, Paola; DE LEO, Alfredo; Pallotta, Emanuele; Mancini, Adriano; Zingaretti, Primo; Cerri, Graziano Editore: Nova Science Publishers Classificazione: 2 Contributo in Volume Abstract: It is well known that the most common and largely used assistive technology among the visually impaired community is the white cane. Despite it is a passive technology with a very limited range of work, its easiness of use and low cost make still prevalent its use. Many technologies have been proposed as alternative assistive devices (in literature and on the market) to improve the autonomous mobility of people affected by eye diseases. Nevertheless, whatever is the physical quantity used by these active assistive technologies - mainly ultrasonic or optical sensors - they present many limitations and none of them adequately meets the international guidelines defined for the electronic travel aids and the specific requests coming from the visually impaired community. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the existing travel aids for people affected by visual disorders, discussing pros and cons of available technologies, and to describe the design and the characterization of a novel class of electronic travel aids based on electromagnetic fields, whose advantages, with respect to the traditional ultrasonic and optic devices, will be explained. Starting from a laboratory prototype, the aspects relative to the miniaturization of the device will be discussed, with a particular attention to the realization of a small radiating element to be attached onto the cane. Operative tests with a blind end user will be reported, demonstrating several potentialities of the electromagnetic technology: detecting in advance (few meters from the user) dangerous objects of different shape and material, detecting the presence of obstacles located at chest or head levels, providing the position of the obstacle respect to the user, easiness of use, etc. Scheda della pubblicazione: https://iris.univpm.it/handle/11566/235219 ![]() |

Visual based landing for an unmanned quadrotor
JOURNAL OF INTELLIGENT & ROBOTIC SYSTEMS Autore/i: Cocchioni, Francesco; FRONTONI, Emanuele; IPPOLITI, Gianluca; LONGHI, SAURO; MANCINI, ADRIANO; ZINGARETTI, Primo Classificazione: 1 Contributo su Rivista Abstract: One of the main challenges for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAVs) is to extend the endurance of small vehicles such as multi-rotors. Actually, Li-po batteries that guarantee a flight of about 20 min power this type of vehicles. The endurance can be extended by enabling vehicles to look for recharging station(s). In this paper, we propose a vision system able to detect and track a given pattern hosted on the target-landing platform. The pattern is also useful to estimate the UAV position while approaching the target or during the hovering close to the target. The paper focuses on an optimized adaptive thresholding technique that manages critical situations as changes in the scene’s illumination / shadows. The developed system runs at 90 Hz for processing a 752×480 grayscale image. Preliminary results on an NVidia Tegra Jetson K1 platform are also presented to distribute the computation between CPU and GPU. Embedded Multisensor System for Safe Point-to-Point Navigation of Impaired Users
IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS Autore/i: Mancini, Adriano; Frontoni, Emanuele; Zingaretti, Primo Classificazione: 1 Contributo su Rivista Abstract: New smart objects to improve the quality of life in the ambient assisted living (AAL) scenario are capturing the interest of researchers and companies. In particular, novel assistive technologies are being developed to make accessible street navigation to impaired people. The solution that we propose in this new application domain of intelligent transportation systems is a framework for a safe point-to-point navigation, owing to high-detailed road graphs, including sidewalks, crosswalks, and generic “obstacles.” The system is based on a low-cost modular sensor box (embedded hardware) interfaced with a mobile/phone application that acts as an intelligent navigator. The main novelty is the capability to sense the surrounding area while being able to perform a fast path replanning, owing to a real-time link to a remote server, if an obstacle is detected. The sensing is performed using different sensors, such as ultrasound, lidar, and a 77-GHz mid-range automotive radar (absolutely novel in the AAL context), which are processed and fused in the well-established robot operating system (ROS). We tested the framework by analyzing its performance in two different configurations and environments by using, respectively, a sonar and a laser rangefinder in a building scenario and a radar in an urban environment. Even if in both cases results demonstrated a quite good robustness in the obstacle detection with a quasi-real-time route replanning, we were mainly interested and succeeded in demonstrating the high flexibility and extensibility of our framework. Development of a GIS environment for archaeological multipurpose applications: the Fano historic centre
HERITAGE and TECHNOLOGY, Mind Knowledge Experience Autore/i: PIERDICCA, ROBERTO; MALINVERNI, Eva Savina; TASSETTI, ANNA NORA; MANCINI, ADRIANO; Bozzi, Carlo Alberto; CLINI, Paolo; NESPECA, ROMINA Editore: La Scuola di Pitagora Classificazione: 4 Contributo in Atti di Convegno (Proceeding) Abstract: In this paper we present a methodological workflow developed within the "ArcheoFano" project, improving collection, organization and management of a GIS data structure for the urban-archaeological Roman centre of Fano town. In this context, the proposed methodology is aimed to build up an integrated and multipurpose system. The starting point is data collection by means of archival (for documentation purposes) and highresolution survey techniques (for metrical purposes); afterwards, a conceptual data model organizes archaeological data and realizes an easily updating solution that automatically produce short reports to share with the users. The open source QGIS is used to develop the spatial extension with the aim to manage 2D/3D numerical cartography and detailed 3D model (using open tools such as Virtual Terrain and Enviro). The final geo-database contains all the useful information to support urban planners decision-making. The ability to structure data in a maintainable way helps to ensure cross-disciplinary cooperation in the management and protection of heritage resources. Lastly, an Augmented Reality (AR) experience is carried out. Linked directly to the geo-database, AR allows a quick real time visualization of GIS layers and 3D models, showing the way forward smart tourism and virtual museum applications. This technology is needful when the archaeological findings must be conceived due to conservation issues. Scheda della pubblicazione: https://iris.univpm.it/handle/11566/226622 ![]() |

ASME Proceedings | 2015 ASME/IEEE International Conference on Mechatronic and Embedded Systems and Applications Autore/i: Cenci, Annalisa; Liciotti, Daniele; Frontoni, Emanuele; Mancini, Adriano; Zingaretti, Primo Classificazione: 4 Contributo in Atti di Convegno (Proceeding) Abstract: In this study, we present a medical imaging method to estimate the preterm infant respiratory rate with a non invasive embedded RGB-D sensor. The respiratory rate is derived by measuring morphological chest wall movements with a depth sensor. The performances of our method are evaluated by comparing the values of respiratory rate measurements obtained using our method with those resulting from a standard reference device, used as a benchmark. Experimental results showed that the proposed method can correctly measure the respiratory rate in preterm infants and activates an alarm signal when respiratory rate values go out of the physiological range or when the infant remains stationary for a long time. As future development, the project can be used as multi-purpose non invasive test on movements and their symmetry or on the infants’ ability to correctly inflate. Autonomous navigation, landing and recharge of a quadrotor using artificial vision
2014 International Conference on Unmanned Aircraft Systems, ICUAS 2014 - Conference Proceedings Autore/i: Cocchioni, Francesco; Mancini, Adriano; Longhi, Sauro Editore: IEEE Computer Society Classificazione: 4 Contributo in Atti di Convegno (Proceeding) Abstract: In this paper a solution to UAV reduced endurance and autonomous flight is proposed. With a complete on-board solution, based on artificial vision, the developed system is able to autonomously take off, navigate and land, recharging its battery by using a dedicated landing platform, both in indoor and outdoor scenarios. The landing platform includes a passive centering system to correct the landing error of the UAV, with a novel design wich reduce cost and increase the safety (thanks to small and isolated electrical contacts) without invasive hardware changes on the drone. The developed vision algorithm provides a fast and accurate measurement of UAV position with respect to the landing platform using a visual target, but at the same time it is able to automatically switch to an estimation of position that is independent from the visual target. This aspect is used during navigation or when the tracking of the target fails, ensuring a continuous position measurement feed to the controllers. The developed control system manages all the different phases of a mission (motor turning on/off, take off, navigation, landing, ... ) with low control error, ensuring a landing over the landing platform with an error that is lower than 5cm for both x and y axis. The developed software in ROS environment is modular and provides input/output interfaces to receive command, or send data. An IMU/UWB/Vision-based Extended Kalman Filter for Mini-UAV Localization in Indoor Environment using 802.15.4a Wireless Sensor Network
JOURNAL OF INTELLIGENT & ROBOTIC SYSTEMS Autore/i: A. Benini; A. Mancini; S. Longhi Classificazione: 1 Contributo su Rivista Abstract: Indoor localization of mobile agents using wireless technologies is becoming very important in military and civil applications. This paper introduces an approach for the indoor localization of a mini UAV based on Ultra-WideBand technology, low cost IMU and vision based sensors. In this work an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is introduced as a possible technique to improve the localization. The proposed approach allows to use a low-cost Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) in the prediction step and the integration of vision-odometry for the detection of markers nearness the touchdown area. The ranging measurements allow to reduce the errors of inertial sensors due to the limited performance of accelerometers and gyros. The obtained results show that an accuracy of 10 cm can be achieved. Scheda della pubblicazione: https://iris.univpm.it/handle/11566/78355 ![]() |

Road pavement crack automatic detection by MMS images
21st Mediterranean Conference on Control and Automation-MED 2013 Autore/i: A. Mancini; E. S. Malinverni; E. Frontoni; P. Zingaretti Classificazione: 4 Contributo in Atti di Convegno (Proceeding) Abstract: The research topic was to test different feature extraction methods to localize road pavement cracks useful to construct a spatial database for the pavement distress monitoring. Several images were acquired by means of a line scan camera that assembled in a Mobile Mapping System (MMS) allows tracking directly the position of the images by a GPS-INS system. Following an automatic digital image processing was performed by means of several algorithms based on different approaches (edge detection and fuzzy set theory). The detected cracks were described with some parameters in relation to some shape characteristics (dimension, typology, direction), which are necessary to recognize the gravity of the road pavement conditions. The edge detection techniques tested in this research allowed identifying fatigue cracking or alligator cracking and also thin linear cracks in images with strong radiometric jumps by applying filters, gradient functions and morphological operators. The snake approach was one of them, in particular the type called Gradient Vector Flow (GVF). Another approach was based on the fuzzy theory. The advantage of this method is that the pixels, necessary to identify the cracks in road pavement, are darker than their surroundings in an image. The last stage was the pavement distress spatial database collection. The Mobile Mapping System (MMS) has allowed localizing the raster data and consequently the vector features of the detected cracks, associating into the table their attributes too. The proposed approaches allow to automatically localize and classify the kind of road pavement crack. Scheda della pubblicazione: https://iris.univpm.it/handle/11566/129067 ![]() |
