Abstract: The Internet of Things includes all the technologies allowing the connection of everyday objects to the Internet, in order to gather measurements of physical quantities and interact with the surrounding environments through telecommunication devices with embedded sensing and actuating units. The measurements carried out with different LEDs demonstrate the possibility of using these devices both as transmitters and as optical sensors, in addition to their ability to discriminate incident wavelengths, thus making them bi-directional transceivers for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, particularly suitable in the context of Visible Light Communication (VLC). In particular, a methodological tool is provided for selecting the LED sensor for VLC applications.

2014 SystemC-WMS: Wave Mixed Signal Simulator for Nonlinear Heterogeneous Systems

Abstract: The present paper proposes a methodology for extending SystemC to mixed signal heterogeneous systems. To that end, a method for modelling analog modules using wave quantities is proposed, and a new kind of port and channel were defined. This class library is plugged directly on top of the standard SystemC kernel, so as to allow a seamless integration with the pre-existing simulation environment, and is designed to permit total interconnection freedom between analog modules to ease the development of reusable analog libraries. Moreover, this allows for a uniform treatment of heterogeneous domains. To highlight all these aspects a buck-converter with digital control and an induction motor were simulated.

Abstract: This paper proposes a methodology that, starting from a set of calibration measurements picked up at the external ports, allows the de-embbeding of a multi-port transition and the determination of its representative matrix. With this methodology the coupling between internal versus external ports are supposed symmetrical. This hypothesis together with the use of exponential mapping and Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff allows the use of only three standards for the characterization of the multi-port transition. The proposed methodology is applied to the identification of the QFN16 package.

2014 A Methodology for RF modeling of packages with external pin measurements

Abstract: This article presents a methodology that allows the determination of the matrix representation of a package. The methodology is based on a set of calibration measurements, picked up at the external pins of the package, of a set of known integrated circuits. The representation of the package can be used both for a correct measurement of the embedded devices and to improve the design of integrated circuits. The effectiveness of the technique is demonstrated by the de-embedding of a packaged passive integrated inductor and the design of a low noise amplifier. The measurement sets were obtained through computer simulations. The effects of added noise on data, like measurement errors, are also investigated, and an approximate methodology, able to reduce these effects, is suggested.

Abstract: The present paper proposes a methodology that, starting from a set of calibration measurements picked up only at the external pins of the package, allows the determination of its representative matrix. Such a matrix can be used both for a correct measurement of the embedded device and in view of improving its design, by accounting for the effect of the package. Abstract: This paper proposes a methodology, based on the regularization theory, to find the planar spiral inductors with optimum quality factor in the whole space of geometric parameters. Moreover a new technique, based on the Debye approximation, has been applied to extract an equivalent circuit model of these inductors. This model provides an accurate wideband frequency characterization up to 30 GHz.

Abstract: This paper proposes a methodology for modelling and simulation of RF systems in SystemC-WMS. Analog RF modules have been described at system level only by using their specifications. A complete Bluetooth transceiver, consisting of digital and analog blocks, has been modelled and simulated using the proposed design methodology. The developed transceiver modules have been connected to the higher levels of the Bluetooth stack described in SystemC, allowing the analysis of the performance of the Bluetooth protocol at all the different layers of the protocol stack.

Abstract: The impact of parasitic effects of integrated inductors for RFIC is not negligible so an accurate model of their behaviour is necessary. This paper presents a numerical parameterized model of integrated inductor with hollow planar spiral geometry and poly-ground-shield. The model allows to choose the inductor geometry with better quality in relation to its spiral side length and number of turns. A validation of the model has been achieved by a 3D electromagnetic field solver. The inductor model has been applied to the synthesis of matching networks for a low noise amplifier operating in the (5 to 6) GHz frequency band

Abstract: This paper presents a methodology, based on regularization theory, to find, in the whole geometric parameter space and for any value of mean inductance, the planar spiral inductor with optimum quality factor. The full-wave electromagnetic simulations of these inductors have been applied to the development of a parameterized circuit model. This model provides an accurate wide-band frequency characterization in the range from 1 GHz to 10 GHz.
